Spring is here, but the weather continues to be unpredictable. While you’re heading out to work in the morning, it’s sometimes chilly, and coupled with aggressive office air conditioning, a lightweight layer’s often necessary.

Luckily, Bloomingdale’s has an incredible selection of outerwear — and endless versions of my personal spring and summer layering staple, the denim jacket. Chances are you already have a classic collared, button-front one in your closet, but the latest iterations of the look are more elevated and trend-forward than ever.

Case in point? The Rag & Bone Miramar Ponte Cora Jacket, a collarless, ladylike (but still laid-back) take on the jean jacket that looks equally great buttoned up or worn open.

Another style I’m loving this season is Mother’s The Duo Short Denim Jacket, which swaps out the usual button-front silhouette with a sleek zip. It has a light stretch and a broken-in feel, making it perfect for weekend outings or casual workdays.

Who says denim jackets have to be blue? White or cream-colored versions feel particularly fresh for warmer weather, and L’Agence’s Yari Cropped Jacket boasts patch pockets and decorative buttons that make it a great day-to-night option.

And finally, a denim chore style like Frame’s The Patch Pocket Denim Jacket is a great counterpart to the barn jacket trend. The polished collar, oversized silhouette and patch pockets make it a cinch to dress up or down, and the dark wash means it’s suitable for both professional settings and casual outings.
