Teddi Mellencamp teared up while talking about her ânew normalâ as she continues cancer treatments.
Over the weekend, the âReal Housewives of Beverly Hillsâ alum got candid about the physical and mental impacts of radiation and immunotherapy after doctors found multiple tumors in her brain.
âI know I speak a lot about all the fun and amazing things that Iâve been doing since all of the tumors, and I have been doing them, and itâs been my way of peace, of coping, finding happiness,â Mellencamp said on her Instagram Story Saturday, while attempting to sleep.
âBut I also wanted to send a reminder and a gentle, like, âI feel you,â if youâre going through this, going through a hard time, that is also normal.â
âWe all find our new normal, and we do the best that we can to feel as good as we can in that moment,â she continued. âSome nights [are] really hard. Tonightâs one of them.â
The following day, the âTwo Ts in a Podâ podcast host revealed that immunotherapy has been taking a serious toll on her body.
âMy immunotherapy⊠it kinda kicks your butt, guys. It kinda kicks your butt, but it waits a little bit â and then it kicks your butt,â she said, noting that she has had to âsuck down a bottleâ of Powerade âevery morningâ to restore her electrolytes.
âIâm here to tell you, itâs not my favorite,â she said. âBut itâs supposed to help.â
However, Mellencamp is âtrying to find a little bit of the positiveâ in the situation.
âI mean Iâm not a doctor â I barely made it through high school â but apparently, the more immunotherapy kicks your butt, the more itâs working, is what I was told,â she said.
âThatâs why I do immunotherapy every three weeks,â she added, âwhereas my radiation, for example, that I start on Monday, I do for a week straight.â
Mellencamp, 43, also responded to questions about her decision to wear a wig as she heads into a tough week of radiation.
âIâve been getting lots of questions about why I wear a wig, theyâre like, âWhy not just rock the shaved head?ââ she said. âAnd guys, sometimes I do.â
Although the reality TV star occasionally steps out without a wig, she admitted that wearing one makes her feel more confident.
âYesterday, I didnât wear a wig in the afternoon and Iâll be honest, I felt a little insecure,â she candidly explained. âSo Iâm going to do whatever makes me feel the best.â
The former âRHOBHâ star underwent emergency surgery last month after going to the hospital due to âsevere and debilitating headaches.â
After a series of tests, doctors discovered a total of seven tumors on her brain â four of which were removed â and two tumors in her lungs.
Despite feeling like she was on her âdeathbed,â Mellencamp has remained optimistic, often sharing videos doing things that make her âheart and soul happyâ â like riding her horse.
